Transport and magnetic critical current in superconducting MgB2 wires

Direct comparison of the magnetic and transport critical current density (Jc) for the same pieces of copper-sheathed MgB2 wires shows a large discrepancy in magnitude and field dependence of the two. The value of magnetic Jc can differ from the value of transport Jc by a factor of 10 or more. This discrepancy does not occur merely because of the difference in the voltage at which the magnetic a...

Longitudinal magnetic field increases critical current in superconducting strip

The critical state of the vortex lattice in a thin strip is considered for the case when first a perpendicular magnetic field is applied, then a longitudinal field, and then again the perpendicular field is increased. This longitudinal field can strongly enhance the critical currents in the strip since the vortices are inclined and the currents flow in the strip plane.

Critical current densities in superconducting materials

We discuss recent research in the area of critical current densities (JC) in superconductors. This shall cover recent work on newly discovered superconductors, as well as on the magnetic-field dependence of JC .

Critical transport currents of superconducting microarrays

2014 From the nonlinear Ginzburg-Landau equations exact maximum supercurrent densities of injected transport currents were calculated for a square microarray as a function of lattice parameter. In the limit that the lattice parameter becomes small in comparison to the temperature dependent coherence length, values of the maximum current were also obtained for honeycomb and rectangular arrays. T...

Critical Magnetic Field Determination of Superconducting Materials*

Abstract Using a 11.4 GHz, 50-MW, <1 μs, pulsed power source and a TE013-like mode copper cavity, we have been measuring critical magnetic fields of superconductors for accelerator cavity applications. This device can eliminate both thermal and field emission effects due to a short pulse and no electric field at the sample surface. A model of the system is presented in this paper along with a d...
